Peace Out, 2016! But Before You Go - Thank You!

There are many people who are convinced that this year, was the worst year ever. I am not one of those people. Politically and socially, this was one of the most turbulent years of recent memory. I will leave it to future historians to write about this historical significance of those moments. Before 2017 takes over, I want to thank 2016 for a few things.

Thank you for pushing me forward.

This year, I moved into my own little studio apartment after having to move back in with my parents post break-up. If this isn't the new American Dream, I don't know what is. It was a big step for me to get back out on my own and remember who I am and what I want out of life. I'm thankful to 2016 for giving me the opportunity.

Thank you for memories filled with fun, friendship, and family.

When looking back on my instagram photos this year, I noticed something. There were fewer photos of food this year, than last year. This means, while I still love to cook, I was concentrating on experiences and people. From running a Star Wars 5K, visiting Seattle for the first time, camping with dear friends, celebrating new life milestones with old friends, hanging out with my family in my parents backyard, GenCon with my sister, and so much more - 2016 is a slideshow of happy.

Thank you for new discoveries and old favorites.

I did things I've never done before in 2016 and returned to some old ones.

  • Bullet Journaling - this is a thing that 100% changed my life in 2016 and part of the reason why I'm blogging again.
  • Reading - I read more books in 2016 than I did in 2015. So that was cool.
  • Disney World - If you know me, there is no secret that I love this place, but I was able to experience it with new people for the first time.
  • Camping - It felt great to camp again this year - twice even!
  • Seattle - such a cool place!

Thank you for reminding me that love is love is love is love.

When I look back on the headlines of 2016, it can be hard to see anything positive, but yesterday I was reminded that 2016 was really a message of love. When bad things happen, you can always find people doing good. When people leave this earth, I am always reminded to tell those I love, that I love them. When the future is uncertain, the only thing I know is love is always there. There has no other year in my lifetime where the message has been this clear.

So thanks 2016. Thanks for being a memorable 365 days.
